Explore Bristol with Hidden Bristol and the Bristol £
Gravitywell recently launched Hidden Bristol, the perfect companion to exploring Bristol's independent cafés, restaurants and venues. Our latest update has added Bristol Pound intregration.
What is the Bristol Pound?
The Bristol Pound is a local currency that aims to support Bristol's independent businesses. As of writing, it's the second largest currency in the UK (after the official sterling currency). The idea is simple: keep money in the city, bring neighbourhoods together and support our local shops. The Bristol Pound is a paper currency, but also allows for electronic payments. The numbers are impressive: over 350 businesses are currently signed up to the scheme!
Did you know?
You can pay your council tax in Bristol Pounds, and George Ferguson takes his salary in the currency!
Where does Hidden Bristol fit in?
Since our last update, we've intregrated the Bristol Pound into our Hidden Bristol app in two ways:
- Restaurants, clubs and bars that accept the Bristol Pound are prominently marked within the app, acting as a useful directory for the Bristol Pound-loving locals;
- While the app already has over 50 venues and locations, users are also submitting their own via the app. As an incentive, ten Bristol Pounds is being offered to users that suggest the most interesting venues.
As the Bristol Pound is something we fully support, we're also looking for new ways to promote the currency in Hidden Bristol and in general.
Sounds good! How do I join?
