Having recently exceeded ten billion app downloads on the Android Market, Google recently announced a promotion where they discounted ten apps each day for ten days down to the price of ten pence. Clever that! Given the low price of entry, I picked up a fair few; and haven't tried quite a number of them out yet. Here are some brief thoughts on these, and a couple of other titles that have also recently been released to the market:

Swiftkey X

For years I've been a luddite on the stock Android keyboard. But no more! Using some sort of unknown wizardry, Swiftkey examines the way that you use language - both typed on the phone, and by importing past Facebook, Twitter and Google+ posts - to predict uncannily well the next word. Its frequency and accuracy of predictions after only typing the first one or two letters is unbeatable, and it genuinely makes typing posts significantly quicker. I thoroughly recommend that you give the Free Trial a go.

Paper Camera

Camera app with a unique user interface and distinctive filters. The options are sufficiently flexible, and it's a fun app to use.

Admittedly, it becomes a bit of a gimmick, and its start up time is disappointingly slow, but a fun app none-the-less.

Pano

Guides you in taking photos to make a perfect panorama before perfectly stitching them together. For the user, the process is less smooth than with the default Ice Cream Sandwich panorama camera, and because the image isn't taken in a continuous sweep, the joins (in my attempts) were more obvious. But if you're still on Android 2, it's a great app to take those panoramic shots.

Path

This is a free "social networking" app that wants to act as a diary and journal that allows you to see what your friends are doing at any one time. It's suffering from problems with traction, but the quality of design in this app is truly top notch. The navigation "hub" in the bottom corner is an interesting idea that I'd love to see more of.

A surprisingly powerful bit of software for producing drawing that's made by Autodesk, SBM has an impressive range of tools for producing quality drawings. If only I were a quality artist...

GTAIII

This is an awesome port of Grand Theft Auto 3. I had a bit of trouble with the analogue driving controls being hilariously oversensitive, but it's incredible how well this can work on a touch-screen device. It runs brilliantly too, and really shows how powerful phones and tablets are becoming.
